When you stop to think about iconic Seattle Mariners, it's time you start to think about Kyle Seager. The ever steady 3rd baseman has quietly and steadily added to his career numbers, all with the Mariners, since he debuted in 2011.
Since taking over the hot corner for good in 2012, Seager has been a regular in the M's starting lineup, having played in at least 154 games each year. Perhaps overshadowed by other stars on the same team (Ichiro, Felix Hernandez, Nelson Cruz, Robinson Cano) or leading otherwise underperforming teams, Kyle Seager simply has not garnered the admiration that is due a player that ranks so highly among this organization's greats.
Some numbers that may surprise you:
Where Kyle Seager ranks in career stats as a Mariner:
Games played: 9th (as a 3rd basemen: 1st)
Hits: 9th
Walks: 8th
Doubles: 5th
HRs: 5th
Position player WAR: 5th
With his solo home run against Texas on May 16th, it marked the 161st as a Mariner (and of his career). That home run moved him into sole position for 5th most as a Mariner. The names ahead of him? Just four men you might have heard of: Alex Rodriguez, Jay Buhner, Edgar Martinez and Ken Griffey Jr.
Keep it up Kyle.
